Riri Nakasone

Bio

I was born and raised in Japan. I received my art education in the United States. My paintings are influenced by Japanese traditions such as calligraphy. I also studied printmaking: reliefs, intaglio lithography, screen printing, and painting. I like to develop my creative ideas using Western techniques.

"Circle of Compassion"

I have always been fascinated with circles. The Zen circle, or enso, is a symbol of teaching, reality, enlightenment, and a myriad of things in between. I want to promote compassion and peace in our lives. The circle is a movement of energy. We all have different energies and lessons to learn from life. I try to paint different qualities of energy with different colors, and create movement with different brush strokes. I pray for world peace, and each brush stroke is my prayer for peace and compassion.
